CHRISTIANS, GOD & TIME
The young minister had a wife, a small son and daughter. What passion had lifted him into the ministry! Starting the new parish had been hard work and had taken a lot of self-dedication, as well as dedication to God.
The young minister must have knocked on hundreds of doors, inviting people to the new church in town. Many doors held people with slight smiles, while many were slammed into the young minister's face. There weren't many people who welcomed the young minister with open arms, or open doors to their homes.
Still, he forged onward, determined to establish this little church in the community. No doubt, it was well-needed, even if it wasn't being well-received. It took a lot of time, this new church. It took a lot of prayers, a lot of visiting, a lot of driving back and forth to the hospitals and to those homes that housed the sick. But the young minister did not give up anything except his own time.
And in time, the little church grew into a big church and was a great blessing to the community. I am certain that there were times when the young minister wanted to pitch in the towel. I am certain there were times when he wanted to do other things, or go other places. The thing about giving time to God, is that it's one of the most precious gifts we can give to Him.
When Christians generally think about God's rewards, they tend to tie it in with money - that if they give God money, he will reward them greatly. Sometimes, as in the case of the young minister, God rewards those non-monetary things in great ways.
