BIBLE STORIES OF JOY
I remember as a kid watching Lassie and Timmy. Every week, Lassie would end up at Death's Door with little Timmy screaming, "No! No! Don't die Lassie!!"
And every week my younger brother would sit through the entire adventure bawling like a baby. He just knew that Lassie was going to get it.
Of course, Lassie always found a way out. But my little brother was so torn up over the near death experience, that it was very difficult for him to get too happy about Lassie living.
The following week when we'd watch Lassie, he'd go through the same routine again. Like Lassie is going to really die??? He always bought her demise - hook, line and sinker.
Lassie is a typical example of how people like to experience adventure, then have that adventure end in a happy, fruitful way.
Many stories in the Bible are quite joyous - but many times, Christians are a bit hesitant to laugh about them.
A few of the funniest stories that are my favorites include: The Talking Donkey; Jonah Sulking Under the Gourd Vine.
The only thing about humor, is that it is generally at the expense of someone else's woe.
