BIBLE STORIES TELLING OF GOD'S GREAT LOVE
There is a very old poem that I remember from my childhood days. With the modern world captured in high-dollar gifts, so much so that even the very meaning of Christmas has become a day of giving rather than a day of the celebration of the Son's birth, this poem seemed appropriate to these times:
- What can I give Him as poor as I am?
- If I were a shepherd, I'd bring Him a lamb,
- If I were a wise man, I'd do my part,
- What would I give Him?
- I'd give Him my heart.
- ~ The Bleak Midwinter by Christiana Rossetti - 1830 to 1894
The best gifts in life truly are free. The flutter of a butterfly's wing, the song of the cricket on a warm summer night, a moon captured in the bowels of a sea of gray clouds, the frost crystallizing the stick trees of winter, and yes, God's love which is the best free gift in town.
The best things about love: it's without restrictions, it's eternal, it's comforting, it's forgiveness with always asking, it's warm, it's fuzzy and it's free.
