Christian Devotion, Be Thankful

So many times we are swift to ask God for this and ask God for that. We may be lax in thanking God for what we have - meager or rich as it may be; we may neglect to appreciate all His divine miracles about us: the beautiful sky, vast blue oceans, wondrous clouds, the tall trees, the magnificent array of animals that have no need of clothing to be beautiful.

Yes, God has given us our miraculous natural surroundings which are so commonplace to us that at times we fail to appreciate their glory. These miracles are God's creation - including man.

Unfortunately, nature itself puts nature at odds. We may appreciate our jobs, but dislike the manner in which our boss treats us. We may love our mates, but find difficulty in dealing with their moods. We love our children, but they will not always please us 100% of the time. The same is such with God. In the same manner that you understand your children, we - being children of God are perceived in His balances in a similar light.  We may not always please Him, but we are still His children - to love, to punish, to bless.

I am reminded of a story from long ago when I met a lady who lived in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Her home was surrounded by tall trees situated on beautiful mountains. The climate in her area was next to perfect. She lived in an non-congested area. Yet, she pined to visit other areas of the country. And she is no different than anyone else. As humans, we have a desire to move forward. No matter how much we achieve, we strive to do better rather thank taking time to give thanks.

With this said, take time to pause. The next time you pray, rather than asking God for a 'want' that will better your life, try thanking Him for all that He has given.
