Christian Devotion, Nails

A good carpenter is never without a good hammer. And a hammer will always find a nail. People can be a lot like nails....

Some nails bend very easily. Some nails are so strong that they are unable to be pounded into place. Some nails are rusty.

Some nails are bent to begin with, while others were flawed in the beginning. Very few nails are perfect, although if they had brains - almost all nails would think they were perfect.

Unfortunately, not all nails are usable for all purposes, so there are many different types of nails.

As for most nails, a good hammer combined with the knowledge of a good carpenter can be used in creating a multitude of wondrous things. With this said, we must strive to be a good carpenter - always having the Good Book in our Christian Tool Belts.

As humans, at times we don't look closely enough, or we don't take the time that we should, or we misinterpret a particular situation. We may perceive that Brother Bench Warmer would better fit the task of youth leader. In truth, although he loves kids, they tend to drive him nuts. Brother Bench Warmer is one of the bent nails.

While overhearing Sister Cindy sing beside her mother last Sunday morning, we may feel she would best serve the Lord's purpose by singing solo, as she has the voice of an angel. In truth, Sister Cindy was lip-singing last Sunday in order to hear her mother's sweet voice, which was as sweet-sounding as an angel. Oh - if only she could sing like that! Sister Cindy is a strong nail that can easily be set - and she is wise in knowing her capabilities and humble in appreciating what those around her have to offer.

Brother Joe is always late to church service, so maybe if he were given the responsibility of driving the church bus, he would make it on time. Truth is, Brother Joe has received six speeding tickets in the last year and has slowed considerably in order to avoid another. Brother Joe is a rusty nail in the process of cleaning up his act with a little rust remover.

The good news is that all nails - no matter in what condition, are usable for a particular purpose. Even the poorest quality of nails can be melted down and incorporated into a larger project - so even those nails which might be considered throw-away's have worth.
