The
Chosen Vessel
Once
there lived a young lad by the name of John
who was from a poor family which had treated
him quite cruelly. John never knew what
it was like to wear clothes that weren't
riddled with holes until he reached adulthood.
A few
years after leaving home, he met a darling
young girl, but he soon discovered that
although she loved him, she chose to marry
a man with money.
Broken
hearted, John's woes were doubled when a
recession took root, also taking away his
job.
Jobless
and now homeless, John felt as if he had
fallen back a decade into his childhood.
Seeking
refuge in God, he prayed diligently. Not
for wealth, not for a mansion, not for power
or popularity, but for God to supply his
needs. John was well aware of the difference
between 'wants' and 'needs'.
Soon
afterwards, John found a job that was greater
than he could have imagined.
Within
the year, he had married the owner of the
company - a lovely woman who held an
intense love and respect for John.
Both
were extremely charitable with their money
and personal time, often seen working the
holidays by feeding and offering shelter
and warmth to the homeless.
A year
later, John was called into the ministry.
Shortly after he was ordained, he counseled
a gentleman who had lost his job during
a layoff. After that, he counseled a young
woman who had lost her husband to another
woman and was left with two small children.
The list of souls sharing their troubles
with John seemed endless and although he
comforted them and offered great support,
he could not remove their personal troubles
from them.
And
then it struck him - a wonderful revelation
relating to life....
Sometimes
God has us endure harsh things in life so
that we can take our knowledge and use it
to help others in need. Just like John we
are chosen vessels of God.
