Never
Forget, for We are Human
No one
is perfect, not even our minister. Everyone
of us makes mistakes, for we are human.
Sometimes, we don't even realize that we've
made a mistake until someone points it out.
We may
think that we are perfect and believe, "I'm
such a good, warm-hearted person. Who couldn't
love me? Why, I wish that everyone was just
like me."
Have
you ever reacted to a situation in a negative
way and simultaneously thought, "Why
am I acting this way? This is ridiculous!"
Even so, you could not shake off your negative
attitude?
It happens
to the best (and worst) of us. For we are
human. And as humans, we tend to judge one
another, sometimes rather harshly. For we
are human. If only we could fulfill that
great commandant that Jesus gave to us,
loving our neighbors as we love our own
self. Why, we would never mis-step, would
we?
Because
we are human, we want to be the best among
humans. Good looks, good job, good personality
and so forth. Only God truly knows the heart
of man. Many of us hold secrets - some good,
some not so good. Only God knows.
There
is an old joke about a busy body in a church
that died. When she reached heaven, she
soon learned that Saint Peter handed out
modes of transportation depending upon how
well the soul preformed on earth. The busy
body was given a scooter and was sitting
on a street corner crying when Saint Peter
dropped by to see how she was doing.
She
told him, "It's not fair! I just saw
the janitor of my church drive by in an
expensive, plush town car. I deserve more
than a scooter! I gave more money to the
church than the
janitor earned."
Saint
Peter went on to tell her that the janitor
gave more to God than she had given to the
church.
Shortly
afterwards, he left her and told her he
would drop by to check on her again in about
an hour. When he arrived, the busy body
was laughing so hard that she had lost her
breath. And when he asked her why she had
suddenly went from tears to laughter, she
told him, "I just saw my minister zoom
by on a pair of roller skates!"
Although
giving money and performing good deeds doesn't
grant us the keys to the Kingdom of God,
the story illustrates that some of us have
better intentions of the heart than others
may have. For we are human.
