Over
Seasoning Life
Last
Christmas while preparing some of my favorite
recipes, I went a bit ape with the seasonings
and in the process ended up learning a valuable
lesson: Too much seasoning may spoil the
most perfect of recipes.
Such
is life.
These
days, we tend to have too much on our daily
plates. And we're not talking about physical
food. For example, if we're not taking our
daughters to soccer games, we're meeting
our friends for lunch - right after we've
finished up our craft class which we took
right after the meeting at the church to
discuss the annual cook-off. So much to
do these days and so little time.
But
having too much on our plates creates the
same scenario as too much seasoning on our
foods. With all the bustling about, many
individuals feel stressed out, wiped out,
cleaned out financially, mentally and physically.
We have little time to relax and what sleep
we do get may be broken, restless or 'not
at all' on some nights.
Then
one day, we suddenly stop. That bustling
noise is but a faint whir in the distance.
Where are all the family members? The kids?
Friends? Our good health?
Unfortunately,
while we were so busy doing all of our bustling
about, somewhere along the way they drifted
away. And we had thought that we had plenty
of time to be with them - to enjoy them,
as well as our good health. But time has
managed to take all that away.
If you
find that you have an ultra busy life -
STOP RIGHT NOW! Don't waste another minute
in sorting out what is most important to
you - and to your family. Don't allow time
to snap away precious memories. Example:
Although
working late might be necessary to provide
financial security for your family, make an effort
to search for a job with doable hours and
comparable pay.
Limit
outings and charity events so that they
don't have you turning into a charity case
yourself. An example: Sister Jane felt so
sympathetic for the little old lady named
Carolyn in her church that she made
it a point to visit her at least four times
a week for a few hours at a time. In the
process, she was leaving behind a lonely
little spouse. In fact, one evening she
was shocked when she returned home to discover
a female member of the church visiting with
him who shyly explained, "Your husband
said he was so lonely these days, so I thought
that the least I could do was to come over
and provide him with a bit of companionship."
A great
example of an over-seasoned life....
