About Angel Food & Dieting

When I look at the following information, I just have
to smile:
Angelfood contains minimal fat and
one large slice has only 150 calories or so. Oh my, that
leaves a bit of room for light topping, doesn't it?
Devil's Food is generally very high
in fat and calories, and considered a big Diet Evil unless it
has been dietized into a healthier version (egg substitute,
oil substitute, etc.).
The
reason that angel food is so low in calories and fat is because it
is made with the whites of the eggs which contain a
scant 17 calories or so, per egg white.
Eggs also have the capacity to turn
into big spiffy clouds when whipped,
and when extracts are added, such as lemon or strawberry, the
'cake in progress' melds extremely well with the additives.
The next time that you are at Wal-Mart,
check out their angel food 'loaf' cake. You can enjoy 1/5
of the loaf for 150 calories. Add a few strawberries -
either fresh or frozen - to that, and a few packs of Splenda
and some light topping, and you'll feel like you're with the
angels!
