Weight Loss Motivators

While trying to lose weight, make a short list of things that you will use as rewards once you reach a certain weight loss amount, or a certain date.  Just like God rewards us, we should also reward ourselves because giving doesn't always mean sacrifice.

  • A new outfit in a smaller size.
  • Enjoy a celebration dinner with a loved one.
  • A day at a spa just for pampering.

 Weight Loss Tip

If you are trying to lose weight, you can calculate how long it will take to lose 'x pounds' by dividing 2 into the number of pounds you want to lose.

For example, if Dieter Jan wants to lose 24 pounds, it's going to take her about 12 weeks to reach her weight loss goal.

I fondly recall waiting as a child for that almost magical Vacation Bible School break of cookies and punch.  There is nothing quite like the combination - which is still the standard 'refreshment' for this memorable event in a child's life!

If sandwiches were provided, they generally came in the form of tuna fish, pimento cheese and peanut butter (with or without jelly). I remember my mom instructing me to only eat hers, because she wasn't sure how good a housekeeper some of the other members of the church were.

If your church is among those that participate in this time-honored event, step in to do your part in making refreshment time a healthy event. Although peanut butter is ultra healthy, many moms mix it with unhealthy syrups and sugars to make it tastier. Jam may be added to that. Tuna fish has now been tagged with some aggressive warnings from the USDA. As for pimento cheese, it generally comes in the form of cheese food rather than crafted with REAL cheese. Add Mayo to that, and we're in serious Health Trouble.

Some healthier alternatives for Vacation Bible School include: hot dogs prepared with the low-fat alternative wieners and basted with mustard rather than Mayo, ham sandwiches - again spread with a little sunshine, tortilla roll-ups prepared with light ingredients, assorted fresh fruit and juice. A healthy body begins with a solid foundation, one that is built during childhood.
